IT'S NOT ABOUT THE SNAIL

Two books sit side by side on my bookshelf. The first is, It's Not About The Bike by Lance Armstrong. The second is, Seven Deadly Sins - My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong by David Walsh. Lance Armstrong's book won the prestigious William Hill Sport book of the year in 2000 whereas David Walsh's book was shortlisted for the same prize in 2013.. but did not win. Armstrong's book is an account of his successful battle with cancer and his first two Tour De France victories and the other is the full story of how Armstrong really achieved his seven Tour De France victories and how he fought to ensure that his doping remained a secret until it was finally exposed. One book is fiction and the other book is fact. But for Lance, attack (and the use of the libel laws in England) was the best form of defence..

Perhaps Lance was really telling us something in the title of his book. We just didn't see it or want to believe it. David Walsh always suspected that there was more to it and pursued the story tirelessly for over 10 years.

So, why the picture of a snail (apart from the obvious Tour De France reference)?
